Vanaprasta formed in December of 2008, and the Los Angeles/Silver Lake rock band has already generated buzz through their intense, energetic live shows at venues like Spaceland, Cinespace, and The Troubadour. They are in the process of recording their debut LP “Healthy Geometry,” which was written by each member of the band in a fashion that unites the album synchronically and conceptually.
Their live shows and recorded tracks feature aggressive guitar interaction, abrupt shifts in time signature, tandem drumming, and soaring vocals. Front man Steven Wilkin, Collin Desha, Taylor Brown, Cameron, Dmytryk, and Ben Smiley showcase a powerful, emotive overall sound which embodies Vanaprasta.
The band is influenced by various sounds, such as the bluesy monstrous riffs of Dark Side of the Moon to the slurred guitar of The Moon & Antarctica. Their sound also draws influence from the driving rhythms of Silent Alarm, the funk of bloodsugarsexmagik, and the raw three part guitarnomies from The Bends.
